What is the Waiting Period in Magma Health Insurance?

A waiting period is the minimum time you must complete after buying your Magma Health Insurance policy before certain illnesses, treatments or pre-existing conditions become eligible for claims. Any claim related to conditions still under the waiting period will not be approved.


Below is the accurate and updated breakdown of waiting periods under Magma (Cholamandalam) Health Insurance:

Initial Waiting Period – 30 Days

For all illnesses, there is a standard 30-day waiting period from the start date of the policy. This does not apply in case of accidental hospitalisation; accidents are covered from day one.

Pre-Existing Disease (PED) Waiting Period

The PED waiting period varies based on the plan variant you choose under Magma OneHealth:


  1. Support Variant: 48 months


  1. Secure / Support Plus / Shield: 36 months


  1. Premium Variant: 24 months


This applies only if the pre-existing disease was declared at the time of buying the policy.

Specified Diseases / Procedures Waiting Period – 24 Months

Certain listed conditions and treatments come with a 24-month waiting period. These typically include, Cataract, Hernia, Joint replacement, ENT surgeries, Internal congenital conditions, and Arthritis and other specific surgeries. The exact list may vary slightly by plan.

Maternity Waiting Period – 4 Years

For Magma health plans that include maternity and newborn benefits, the waiting period is 4 years.

Only after completing this duration can you claim for Normal delivery, C-section, Newborn cover (where applicable). This benefit is only available in select variants like Gold or Premium.

Other Applicable Waiting Periods

Depending on the plan variant, there may be additional waiting periods, such as:


  1. 90 days for critical illness cover
  2. 3 years for LASIK, bariatric surgery, or mental health treatments (if included in the plan)


These apply only if your specific plan includes these benefits.
