What is the MAA Yojana?
The scheme began on 1 May 2021 as the Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Swasthya Bima Yojana. In February 2024, it was renamed the Mukhyamantri Ayushman Arogya Yojana under the government led by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. The current programme builds on that earlier scheme; it did not begin from scratch in 2024.The latest Rajasthan Economic Review reports that MAA provided up to ₹25 lakh in annual cashless treatment per family across 2,179 packages, with treatment portability to other states. These are scheme-level figures; your access depends on eligibility, the active policy year, approved packages and participating hospitals. What changed under the current government?
The 2024 renaming was a visible administrative change. Later state budgets announced further measures, including interstate portability and additional packages for areas such as geriatric care, oral cancer, AYUSH and disability-related treatment.A 2026–27 budget announcement also addressed free treatment for destitute or unclaimed patients who lack documents. Announcements and budget targets do not always mean every detail is already active for every beneficiary. Check the current package list and official instructions before relying on a specific benefit.Who may be eligible, and what does it cost?
The Rajasthan Health Department’s published scheme information lists free enrollment for eligible categories such as:- Families covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA)
- Eligible Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011 families
- Small and marginal farmers
- Contract workers in state departments and related bodies
- Certain families who received COVID-19 ex-gratia assistance
What treatment does it cover?
MAA is a package-based scheme. It covers approved inpatient and identified procedures at eligible government hospitals and empanelled private hospitals. The cashless limit is up to ₹25 lakh per family per year; it does not mean every treatment or bill is automatically covered. The state health department’s scheme information lists related pre-hospitalisation expenses for five days and post-hospitalisation expenses for 15 days within the applicable package. Treatment availability, package limits and documentation depend on the current scheme rules.Do not treat any separate accident benefit as part of the ₹25 lakh medical cover. Confirm its availability and conditions under the active policy year if it is relevant to you.How to check eligibility and use the scheme
- Use the official MAA portal or Rajasthan SSO to check your registration status.
- Confirm that your Jan Aadhaar family details are correct and that your enrollment is active.
- Check whether the hospital is currently empanelled and whether the required procedure is listed.
- At the hospital, contact the MAA or Ayushman helpdesk with your Jan Aadhaar or other requested identification.
- Ask the hospital to explain verification and cashless pre-authorisation before treatment.
Where MAA fits in Rajasthan’s health system
MAA is one part of the state’s healthcare support. Rajasthan also operates the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS) for eligible government employees and pensioners, and the Employees’ State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) for covered workers. Public programmes for medicines and diagnostics provide additional support through government facilities. These programmes have different eligibility rules and benefits. Confirm which scheme applies to your family instead of assuming that enrollment in one automatically gives access to another.MAA Yojana vs private health insurance
MAA Yojana | Private health insurance |
Eligibility and enrollment follow Rajasthan scheme rules | Eligibility and terms depend on the insurer and policy |
Treatment is limited to approved packages and participating hospitals | Benefits, exclusions and hospital networks vary by plan |
Free or subsidised enrollment may be available to eligible families | Premiums depend on the policy and applicant |
Benefits are governed by current scheme rules | Benefits are governed by the policy wording |
Final takeaway
MAA can help eligible Rajasthan families access cashless treatment for listed packages, but the benefit depends on current eligibility, active registration, hospital participation and scheme terms. Check these details before treatment, and use the official portal for current package and enrollment information.Frequently Asked Questions
